The RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship course provides an introduction to the basic skills required before taking a small boat to sea or taking an active part in running a boat. This course is ideal for those operating smaller craft close to shore or are currently crewing but want to increase their skills and become more useful. It also serves as a great foundation for the RYA Day Skipper Theory Course.
RYA Theory Courses
All our RYA theory courses are taught in a light airy room with air conditioning to maximize your comfort and with no more than 5 students per class to allow the instructor more time per student. We teach courses from Basic Navigation through to Yachtmaster Ocean. Our price includes lunches during the courses.
A comprehensive introduction to chart work, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship for Day Skippers. The RYA Day Skipper Theory Course is essential to give you the knowledge to allow you to safely navigate and sail familiar waters by day.
Once you have completed the RYA Day Skipper Theory shorebased course you can then advance to the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory course, this builds on the knowledge already acquired in the shorebased Day Skipper course. The Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory course is targeted towards sailors and motor boaters who are interested in the more advanced passages, i.e offshore or night-time.

The RYA Yachtmaster Ocean shorebased course will help you to understand the mysteries of astro navigation, how to use a sextant, how to plan an ocean passage, including passage making, worldwide meterorology and the use of electronic navigational aids.
