All our skippers are RYA qualified instructors. We feel that great instructors make a big difference in learning, retention and fun. Our instructors have been sailing for years in many locations, waters and environments. This experience provides a wealth of knowledge far beyond the average instructor. More importantly our instructors love sailing and love sharing their passion with you.
We have very high standards for our instructors and only continue working with the best, and our instructors participate in regular, structured staff training to ensure they are up to date with changes and continue to work to a high standard.
Keith Charlton After leaving corporate life back in the UK, where he had a hectic work schedule within the oil business, Keith turned his passion for sailing into his life.
Keith is one of the founding members of Endeavour Sailing and our Chief Instructor. He is also the RYA Yachtmaster Instructor, and has been instructing for many years. He has been sailing for over 40 years (although he will not admit it) with a vast amount of racing and cruising. Keith sets high standards and thus ensures that the yachtmaster candidates are well prepared for their exams before. But beware of the Geordie accent!
Alan Bishop Alan is one of our cruising instructors. Ex military, Army and RAF, having served in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, Belize, Northern Ireland & Germany, where he flew helicopters and trained others. This experience ensures Alan is well prepared, calm and patient.
With many miles cruising under his belt, Caribbean, Cape Verdes & Canaries has given Alan a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Alan is well respected and crews love him and he has a never ending supply of witty one liners. Feedback for Alan is fantastic and very positive
But beware of the bandy legs!
Stephanie Charlton Stephanie also left the corporate life behind. As a Regional Business Manager in the Pharmaceutical Industry and previous to that a Trainer, she has a wealth of knowledge on organising, people management and development, which she brings to her current role as School Principle. Along with Keith, Stephanie is driven in turning their dream into a success
Stephanie is the school principle, and has set standards for staff training, cleanliness and comfort far above those of many other sailing schools, to ensure excellent instruction and a comfortable stay with us.
As a RYA Cruising Instructor, RYA Yachtmaster Theory Instructor, RYA First Aid and RYA VHF Instructor, Stephanie plays an active role in the instruction as well as running the school.
Doug Carroll
Although Doug was born in Scotland, he moved to Bermuda at an early age.
His first sailing experience at the age of 14 was as crew aboard the 72 foot ketch Rob Roy en route from Bermuda to St. Thomas – just under a 1000 miles and 7 days at sea. Returning to England to attend college, he started teaching dinghy sailing to scouts in the 80’s.
Doug and his wife Anita moved up to cruising yachts when they bought Magic Dragon in 1992.
Doug became a RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Instructor in 1996.
After a few years in Dartmouth, they decided to set off on a ‘year out’ round the North Atlantic in 1997.
They arrived in the Canaries in March of ‘98 but with the Caribbean hurricane season approaching, they found work locally and are still here!!!
Doug is our Yachtmaster Ocean instructor and has been been teaching Astro Navigation since 2005.
